For many, the bike is their preferred means of transportation. But for low-income workers, it may be their only way to get to work.
They are often the cyclists you spot riding against traffic or on sidewalks, usually without a helmet. They must ride at night but usually do so without lights.
We’re seeking donations that will let us supply local police departments and worker groups with free helmets, lights, vests and other safety gear. Our goal is to educate riders taking too many risks and endangering themselves, pedestrians and motorists. When approached, we recommend a warning and the gift of a helmet or other safety gear, along with a quick safety talk, and a guide to safe commuting written in their own language.
If you represent a police department or worker group who would like to work with us, or a merchant willing to donate, please contact us at info@maffnj.org.
